What is a Botulinum toxin injections?
Botulinum Toxin Injections is a neurotoxin that weakens and reduces muscle movement when injected into specific facial muscles. This reduces the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines near the surface of the skin. Areas commonly treated with Botulinum Toxin Injections include the forehead, eyes, mouth, and lips. These relaxing injections can also be used to treat TMJ disorder, which is known to cause facial pain, headaches, and teeth grinding.
The effects of Botulinum Toxin Injections injection’s last about three to four months. Patients who wish to prolong the effects of their injection may choose to schedule regular appointments with them to extend the time it takes for the muscle to recover.
Difference between Botox, Dysport, Xeomin, Jeuveau.
All four are neuromodulators that relax the muscles but the difference between them lies in their specific formulation.
Botox uses onabotulinumtoxinA; Dysport uses abobotulinumtoxinA; Xeomin uses incobotulinumtoxinA; and Jeuveau uses botulinum toxin type A. They all work in similar ways and last about the same amount of time. Jeuveau, aka Newtox, is the newest neuromodulator to get FDA approval for cosmetic purposes exclusively. Xeomin doesn’t have any additives and is considered the purest.
You are also less likely to build up resistance to Xeomin since it is a “naked” protein. Xeomin produces a softer more natural movement. Both Botox and Xeomin are used for therapeutics as well as cosmetic purposes. Dysport is slightly different than the other three neuromodulators when it comes to units and dosing which is why you may see it advertised quite a bit less at other places.
Don’t worry, at North End Dental, we already did the conversion for you to make it simple. Dysport tends to have the quickest onset. All four are great products but the key is too find out which one works best for YOU.
How does Botulinum Toxin Injections Work?
Botulinum Toxin Injections blocks the release of acetylcholine, a chemical that travels from nerves to muscles to cause muscle contractions. Since muscle movement is what causes wrinkles to form, this results in smoother skin.
Benefits of Botulinum Toxin Injections
If you’re looking to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, Botulinum Toxin Injections is the ideal treatment option for you. Unlike facial fillers, Botulinum Toxin Injections works to correct dynamic wrinkles in the face that are caused by repeated muscle contractions. These wrinkle-causing contractions are the result of years of frequent facial expressions like smiling or squinting. While dermal fillers can plump up the skin and fill in creases and folds, they cannot address the underlying muscle activity that causes these wrinkles in the first place. That’s why Botulinum Toxin Injections is such a popular choice for women and men who are looking to smoothen their complexions and diminish the look of fine lines and deep-set wrinkles around the forehead, eyes, and mouth areas.
Another key reason to choose Botulinum Toxin Injections is that it’s a minimally invasive treatment that has a short recovery time, so you can get back to your normal routine in no time! Most patients notice results within three to seven days after treatment, and the results last for up to four months. Botulinum Toxin Injections are also done during short appointments, which means you won’t have to miss work or other daily activities to receive this anti-aging treatment.
