What is Teeth Whitening?
Teeth whitening is a common cosmetic procedure that is primarily used to brighten teeth. Professional Teeth Whitening
If you decide to get professional whitening, our dentist will apply a whitening gel to the surface of your teeth. The gel should be thick enough to stay on your teeth but thin enough to not cause irritation. The gel typically has a pH of 7.5 to 8.0, which is slightly acidic.
At-Home Teeth Whitening Kits
There are many over-the-counter whitening products. Some may remove superficial stains, while others can lighten the tooth structure. However, they may not be effective enough to remove the staining on your teeth. As an alternative, we provide at-home whitening kits.
At-home whitening kits that involve wearing a mouthguard that contains bleach. Our dentist can make custom-fitted mouthguards for you. However, you should always consult with our dentist before trying an at-home whitening product. Our dentist could also recommend which over-the-counter product might be best for you.

Safety of Whitening Methods
Our dentist can talk with you about any whitening methods. Many people have had their teeth whitened with at-home methods, but in-office whitening is safer. Moreover, in-office whitening offers faster results.
The whitening gel contains a stronger bleaching agent than in at-home products. This bleaching agent can irritate your gums, so our dentist will always cover your gums to protect them. We will also use a retractor to help keep your cheeks and lips away from the teeth. Since the whitening gel is a bleaching agent, the retractor will also protect these sensitive tissues.
